According to Awich, the fire which started at around 6:00 am this morning started from a food store where the watchman had taken cover. He reportedly suffocated to death as the fire spread to other hotel parts.
A night watchman has been killed in a suspected arson attack in
Binen Restaurant in Bardege-Layibi division of Gulu City.
Nicholas Ochora, a businessman in the area identified the
deceased as Francis Awich, 60 years old and a resident of the Industrial Area in
Bardege-Laiyibi division.
According to Awich, the fire which started at around 6:00 a.m
this morning started from a food store where the watchman had taken cover.
He
reportedly suffocated to death as the fire spread to other parts of the hotel restaurant.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Regional Police Spokesperson
says that the police fire brigade rushed to the scene and put out the fire
before it had spread to other rooms.
He added that an investigation into a case of suspected murder
by arson had been launched at the Gulu City Central Police station vide CRB
422/2022 since the food store had no electric connection which would have
preferable triggered the fire.

Mudong noted that no suspect had been arrested in connection to
the incident adding that the body was retrieved and taken to Gulu Regional
Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
