We Are Not Hired Slaves - Gen. Tumukunde Fires Back at Museveni

In a rejoinder to Museveni’s remark, Tumukunde told voters in Bugisu sub region on Tuesday that leaders cannot decide who comes after them. He rebuked Museveni for thinking that other officers are supposed to serve under him as hired slaves.

Lt. Gen. Henry Tumukunde has hit back at President Yoweri Museveni over the derisive remarks he made against him.

Gen. Tumukunde who is running in the presidential race as an independent has condemned the president for calling him, the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC stalwart Dr. Kizza Besigye and Gen. Mugisha Muntu, the Alliance for National Transformation presidential candidate useless.   

During his campaigns in Rukungiri on Monday, Museveni said that he is not ready to hand over power to any of the trio because they are useless. Museveni told selected NRM leaders from Kanungu and Rukungiri districts at Rukungiri municipal Stadium that the three retired generals have done nothing useful and that he will only hand over power to someone he believes can take the country forward.    

Now, in a rejoinder to Museveni’s remark, Tumukunde told voters in Bugisu sub region on Tuesday that leaders cannot decide who comes after them. He rebuked Museveni for thinking that other officers are supposed to serve under him as hired slaves. He described Museveni as too patronizing; saying the kind of language he uses against fellow leaders is very disappointing.

Tumukunde combed the districts of Mbale, Bududa and Namisindwa on Tuesday as he wound up his tour of Bugisu sub-region. While campaigning in Bukhaweka village in Bubulo East constituency in Namisindwa district, Tumukunde told the locals that people in mountainous regions do not normally have enough land, saying they deserve special farming projects that do not require a lot of land.

He said the coffee farming in the region has suffered from poor prices and lack of value addition for the entire 34 years of the NRM government and urged the residents to vote for change in order to realize the prosperity they desire.
