Uganda Cranes skipper Denis Onyango has called upon his teammates to step-up and improve on the fitness levels ahead of the two crucial back to back 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Egypt.

The Cranes will hosts Egypt on August 31st at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and later travel for the return leg on September 5th in Alexandria.

Speaking to URN in an exclusive interview, the first choice goalkeeper said although many of the Ugandan senior players have not been very active with their respective clubs and are still down interms of fitness, they must have belief in them selves.

Cue out:..we can do it.”//

He also made it clear they must keep a close watch on two pivotal Egyptian players Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Elneny. Salah netted one of the goals in Liverpool's 4-0 win over Elneny's Arsenal in an English Premier League game played on Sunday.

“Those are very skillful players who bring lots of experience from their teams in the English Premiership and we must keep them under close watch. It is gonna be war in Kampala because we need the three points before we travel to Egypt,” he added.

In their last game at the 2017 Afcon competition in Gabon, Egypt netted a last minute goal to win a group game in Port Gentil. But Onyango thinks that defeat should be their turning point as they need a sweet revenge. “This is a World Cup qualification and every player would love to be at the World Cup,” he added.

The seven time African champions Egypt currently top the group after picking a 2-1 win over Congo Brazzaville and a 2-0 victory over Ghana. Uganda Cranes who are second in the group beat Congo Brazzaville 1-0 and drew goalless away with the Black Stars of Ghana.
