The new synod for West Buganda Diocese has finally been formed, setting the stage for the process to elect a new bishop. The Diocesan spokesperson, Rev. Enock Muwanguzi says after constituting the synod, the process of election of new bishop of West Buganda will now begin.

The first synod meeting is expected to convene on 15th October to elect the Electoral College, that proposes two names to the House of Bishops. Muwanguzi however says there is other business for the synod to handle.

Formation of the synod was completed after St. Paul\'s Cathedral, Kako chose Donald Kiruuta to replace John Mugabi who failed to prove he was still a youth. Rev. Canon Fred Kayondo, the Dean of the cathedral told URN that the election was held after the deadline given to Mugabi to produce his baptism ticket passed.

Mugabi was rejected by the diocese after he was elected the youth representative, on claims that he was overage.

Bishop Jackson Matovu, who is caretaking the diocese, had also earlier ordered re-election in Nyendo and Kako parishes over fraudulent elections.

The new synod is supposed to start the process of electing a new bishop of West Buganda diocese, to fill the vacuum created by the death of Bishop Godfrey Makumbi, who succumbed to cancer of the throat in June, 2015.
