West Lango Diocese Hunts for UGX 350M for Consecration of Bishop

According to Odyero, the organising committee has already secured 50 million shillings for the event leaving a huge deficit. He says they have set up a sub committee led by Sam Engola, the state minister for housing to lead a fundraising a drive to cover the gap.
The committee organizing the consecration of Reverand Canon Alfred Acur Okodi Progress, the first Bishop of West Lango Diocese is hunting for 350 million shillings for the event. Ogwang Odyero, the Amolatar Resident District Committee who is chairing the committee disclosed this over the weekend. The consecration is scheduled for October 19th at St Peter's Cathedral Aduku in Apac district. According to Odyero, the organizing committee has already secured 50 million shillings for the event leaving a huge deficit. He says they have set up a sub committee led by Sam Engola, the state minister for housing to lead a fundraising a drive to cover the gap.  Odyero says Eddy Ococ, a son of the soil will co-ordinate well wishers in the diaspora who would want to contribute the consecration event. According to Odyero, the have scheduled a fundraising drive on September 28th  At Adukupro- cathedral church and invited Rebecca Kadaga, the speaker of parliament as chief guest. He reveals that more than 35 serving and 50 retired Bishops have confirmed their attendance for the enthronement of the West Lango Bishop.  Reverend Canon Alfred Acur Okodi Progress was elected West Lango Bishop by the house of Bishops onJuly 17th 2014 at Lweza training and conference center.  

The house of Bishops also Rev Canon SamuelGidudu  to replace Daniel Gimadu as the Bishop of West Mbale.  A July 21st statement by Rev Canon Amos Magezi,the provincial secretary church of Uganda shows that Bishop Gimadu retired early this year. Gidudu will be consecrated on November 19th at St Mathew Cathedral Buhugu in Sironko District. 60-year-old Ven Canon Alfred Acur Okodi was born on December 25, 1954 at Abako Sub-county in the present Alebtong District. He holds a Master of Arts degree from the Nairobi Evangelical School of Theology that he attained in 1996 after obtaining a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the then Bishop Tucker Theological College, now Uganda Christian University. He also holds a teaching diploma from Kyambogo National Teachers' College, now Kyambogo University. He attended Dr. Obote College for O-Levelbefore  proceeding to Kitgum HighSchool for his A-Level education.  

He taught in Lira Town College before he became a head teacher of Ibuje Secondary School and then Chaplain of Dr. Obote College.  Since 2011 he has served as Vicar of St Stephens Nsambya as well as Archdeacon of Kampala Southern Archdeaconry in Kampala Diocese.
