Muzaidi Khemis, the Arua Central Division Mayor, says despite serving the entire West Nile, people from DR Congo and South Sudan Nationals, the government has ignored Arua Hospital by failure to construct a bigger and modern mortuary.
Leaders in West Nile and Arua City have asked the government to expedite the process of constructing a
modern Mortuary at Arua Regional Referral Hospital. The available mortuary
was built in the 1960s and only have the capacity to store one body.
It also lacks freezers for preserving
dead bodies despite having received a face-lift
some ten years ago. Currently, some bodies
are kept on the floor from where they are picked from by loved

wonders why the President’s promise to construct a modern mortuary for Arua
hospital has not materialized. According to Lematia, the current state of the mortuary at Arua hospital is
unpalatable for a regional City.

Dr. Joyce Moriku, the Moyo District Woman MP and
State Minister for Primary Education describes the mortuary at Arua
Regional Referral hospital as a body store, adding that they will follow
it up with the president as leaders from the West Nile region.

for northern Uganda has tasked Arua City and West Nile Development
Association officials to avail her with the budget for the mortuary for
follow up with the President and Ministry of Finance.

Dr. Filbert Nyeko, the Director Arua
Regional Referral Hospital, says that they have severally notified the Ministry
of Health on the status of the mortuary and the need for a modern
facility but haven’t received any response.
