Police in Lwengo are investigating circumstances under a 42-year-old woman was raped and then killed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, a few minutes to 3pm.
The deceased identified as Harriet Mbabazi, a resident of Kiteredde village in Kyazanga Rural, Lwengo district was preparing supper when her attackers struck.
According to residents, Mbabazi yelled for help but by the time residents reached her, she was already dead and lying in a pool of blood in her kitchen.
Her husband Godfrey Kiwanuka (47) who is married to three women claims he was at his second wife's home at the time of the attack on Mbabazi.
A post mortem exam conducted by Dr. Isaiah Kiiza later revealed that Mbabazi had been raped before she was killed. The killers finished her off by striking her on the head with an axe.
A shaken Kiwanuka says he does not know why Mbabazi was attacked because she did not have a history of quarrels with anyone in the community.
But Gideon Tulyareba, the Kiteledde LCI Chairman, says that Kiwanuka's three wives had several times had misunderstandings among them.
Tulyareba says that contrary to what Kiwanuka claims, the husband and wife were estranged. He says that village authorities had several times been forced to intervene to help the feuding couple resolve their domestic disagreements.
Mbabazi’s 8-year old son (names withheld) gave more damning testimony when he revealed that Kiwanuka has tried to strangle Mbabazi on more than one occasion.
Kenneth Kabwigo Gumisilizza, the OC Kyazanga police station, confirmed Mbabazi’s death urging residents to help with information that can lead them to the killers.
He said that the police sniffer dog failed to trace the assailants due to the fact that residents had tampered with the scene of crime.
He said they are going to question some people over the same in order to get some leads to help them arrest the killers.
The body was given to Mbabazi’s family members for burial as investigations continued.
