Woman Chops Co-Wife’s Arms Over Bananas

According to Ankunda, Nayebare found Mwebaze with 4 bunches of bananas around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening and accused her of cutting them from her plantation without her permission leading to a quarrel.

Mbarara police are holding a woman accused of cutting off the arm of her co-wife for allegedly cutting unspecified bunches of Bananas from her plantation. Benjamin Ankunda, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations Rubindi Police station identifies the suspect as Robinah Nayebare while the victim is Jane Mwebaze. 

The two are wives of Gidius Mwebaze, a resident of Rwobusiisi cell in Rubindi in Ruhumba town council. According to Ankunda, Nayebare found Mwebaze with 4 bunches of bananas around 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening and accused her of cutting them from her plantation without her permission leading to a quarrel.

Ankunda notes that this is not the first time that the co-wives were fighting, adding that the two had many unresolved misunderstandings, which their husband has also failed to address. He advises couples to always use the Police Family Protection Unit and Probation Offices to help them resolve any misunderstandings. 

Amon Muruhura, an eyewitness says the duo developed a serious quarrel when Robinah found Mwebaze cutting matooke on her side of the garden yet their husband allocated each of them their portions.  Jane is nursing wounds at Sheema clinic in Rubindi Town council while Nayebare is locked up at Rubindi police station as investigations continue.
