Woman in Abim Quarantined After Travelling On Truck

Health authorities say the woman travelled on a truck that was transporting cement to Abim town on Sunday.

A woman who traveled on a truck from Lugazi, Buikwe district to Abim has been quarantined.

Health authorities say the woman traveled on a truck that was transporting cement to Abim town on Sunday when residents tipped the COVID-19 District Taskforce that resolved to immediately quarantine her.

According to the Abim Resident District Commissioner, Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, as the district task force, they have resolved to isolate the woman and observe her for 14 days.

The woman is under isolation at Yenglemi Inn in Abim town council. Her samples have also been sent to the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe.

Hashaka says that they discovered that many truck drivers are carrying passengers in the pretext of being part of the truck crew, increasing the risk of spread of the pandemic.

The acting DPC Abim, George Mufuku says that they have increased surveillance on the truck drivers and their crew.

Last week, the Minister of Health Dr Ruth Aceng asked women to stay away from the truck drivers. 

The number of truck drivers who have so far tested positive for the viral disease is now five.
