Women Gang Raped by Warriors in Napak District

Micheal Ilukol, the crime department in-charge Napak district, says the women were found collecting firewood in company of a man in the bushes. He explains that an elderly woman, who happened to be an in-law to the man, was forced to have sexual intercourse with him at gun-point.
Eleven suspected cattle rustlers on Tuesday tortured and gang raped three women who were found in the bushes gathering firewood in Napak district. The group, including a man, are now admitted at Matany Hospital in critical condition.

The incident happened at Nakaramoi village, Lotome sub-county.

Micheal Ilukol, the crime department in-charge Napak district, says the women were found collecting firewood in company of a man in the bushes. He explains that an elderly woman, who happened to be an in-law to the man, was forced to have sexual intercourse with him at gun-point.

Ilukol revealed that one of the younger women in the group was raped by 8 of the raiders, until she lost consciousness. Later, the women were forced to carry the rustlers' loot up to Koisikei village, near Nabilatuk trading centre in Nakapiripirit district.

He says that all efforts to track the criminals are underway.

Joseph Eruu, LC5 councillor for Lotome, suspects the rustlers are from the neighbouring Nakapiripirit district. He explains that in the past three weeks marauding rustlers have raped more than 6 other women. They have also forced men who fall into their ambush to perform sexual acts with their in-laws at gun-point, which is against their cultural norms.

Eruu blames security agencies for failure to respond to their pleas whenever the rustlers attack their villages. He says on several occasions the rustlers have harvested crops in gardens at gun-point. He appeals to government to find a solution for the escalating crime rate in the area.

Maj. Ddudu Baker, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Napak, claims security agencies are compiling a comprehensive strategy to track all the notorious criminals.

A budget has reportedly been set aside for the activity to have all the culprits arrested and prosecuted in the courts of law.
