The State Minister for Youth and Children, Balaam Barugahara says its time young people appreciate the value of land and desist from selling it for purposes of joining the boda boda business.
Youth in Bunyangabu District have been cautioned against selling
their land but focus on utilizing it for production.
The State Minister for Youth and Children, Balaam Barugahara says
it's time young people appreciate the value of land and desist from selling it
for purposes of joining the boda boda business.
Barugahara was speaking as
a chief guest at the Bunyangabu District Youth Conference held at
Kibito Secondary School playgrounds.
The minister said the youth
need to safeguard their land and utilize it for programs that have been put up to enable young people to engage in commercial agriculture at both large and
small scale.
He also cautioned them against
resorting to money lenders, warning that they could exploit and hinder their
aspirations.

Barugahara called on the youth in the district to avoid sectarian
politics, avoid drug abuse and focus on utilizing government programs to
improve their incomes.

Peace Mutuzo, the State Minister for Gender and Culture
who is also the Bunyangabu District Woman MP assured the youth of the
government's commitment to prioritizing youth-centred programs to ensure direct
benefits for young people.
She noted the need for
industries in the district to stimulate economic growth.

The District Youth Chairperson, Taddeo Mwesige called on the government
to support the young people in the district with machinery they can use to
process their produce.
He also asked the government to take charge of companies that
are giving boda boda motorcycles on loan noting that they are overcharging
riders with many failing to complete payments.

However, several youths heckled the two ministers and
the Bunyangabu County MP Davis Kamukama for neglecting their concerns after
assuming power.
Basaija is a graduate of Uganda Christian University (UCU-Mukono) holding a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communication.
He is a currently pursuing a fellowship in Gender Communications at Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communications Nairobi, Kenya and expected to graduate in 2025.
He also boosts of numerous training's in the journalism arena.
Before joining URN, he had served as documentation support personnel, radio presenter and a news editor.
