Chris Turyomurugyendo, the Youth Chairperson of Kitumba Sub County in Kabale district has been arrested for allegedly sending death threats to Uganda Radio Network Journalist Samuel Amanya.
Turyomurugyendo allegedly called the journalist on May 23, using a mobile phone registered in the names of Penelope Akampurira Lynnette and threatened to end his life. It was later established that Akampurira is a sister to Turyomurugyendo.
The threats allegedly came after the journalist took pictures for the home of State Minister for Finance David Bahati and shared them on social media, evoking debate on the cost of the structure to the taxpayer. Amanya reported the matter to Kabale police station, thereafter.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate says that police have arrested the youth leader to guide their investigation into the matter.
