Youth representatives in Parliament have tasked the incoming Minister of State for Youth and children Affairs, Evelyn Anite to serve the interests of all youths in the country, regardless of their party affiliation.

President Yoweri Museveni recently reshuffled the Cabinet; appointing Anite to the position, in what political pundits believe is a reward for her role in spearheading the sole candidacy of Museveni in the forthcoming 2016 general elections.

Addressing the media at Parliament, Eastern Youth MP, Peter Ogwang says the ministerial appointment is an open invitation to all youths in the country to demand for services from the minister without fear of being sidelined due to their membership to opposition parties.

Under the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Youth Affairs, the legislators also handed over a document, outlining some of the issues that the minister-designate, if approved by Parliament\'s Appointment\'s committee, should prioritise.

Among them is the passing of the National Youth Policy; the proposed national youth internship and service program, as well as setting up a high level multi-ministerial youth working group.

National Youth MP, Monica Amoding says with the current youth unemployment levels soaring by the day, it is imperative that focus is driven towards creating more job opportunities for the youths through approving the National Action Plan on Employment.

A report by Action Aid Uganda titled: ‘Lost Opportunity? Gaps in Youth Policy and Programming in Uganda\' placed youth unemployment at 62 per cent.

Anite, who is the current Northern Youth MP, says her appointment should not be hinged on her affiliation to the ruling NRM party, rather on championing the voice of the youths.
